What does the Catholic Church teach about Christ’s Use of Abba?

Jesus’ use of Abba continues to be regarded as an authentic expression of Jesus’ special relationship with God.

This word, Abba, comes from the Aramaic term for father. Though there is no evidence of Jewish usage of Abba to address God in the time of Jesus, there is not enough literature to support any strong assertion about such Jewish usage or lack thereof.

While the uniqueness of Jesus’ utterance is open to question, the implication of Jesus’ trust in and intimacy with God remains.
